Creative Sanctuary
A soft place to fall in uncertain times
In a world that can feel overwhelming and uncertain, finding a space for peace and creative expression has never been more important. Creative Sanctuary is a six-week online workshop designed to offer just that—a soft, welcoming place where you can gently explore various forms of creativity, free from pressure or expectation. This course is open to everyone, regardless of experience, and is built on the belief that art is for everyone, not just for those with formal training or artistic backgrounds.
The workshop will guide you through different creative practices, such as notebook writing, watercolour painting, drawing, photography, poetry, and haiku. Each week will introduce a new form of expression, giving you the opportunity to experiment and find what resonates with you. The emphasis is on exploration and self-discovery, rather than achieving technical mastery. Whether you are completely new to creative practices or have years of experience, this workshop will provide a nurturing environment to cultivate your artistic voice.
At its core, Creative Sanctuary is about creating a sustainable, gentle practice that helps alleviate anxiety and offers comfort. These times have been especially challenging for many, and the course is designed to help you find calm through creative expression. You’ll be encouraged to focus on the process of creating, rather than the final product. It’s not about perfection or creating ‘great art,’ but rather about finding joy and relief in the act of making.
Each week, you’ll receive prompts and guided exercises tailored to help you gently engage with your creative side. For example, in the first week, you’ll explore notebook writing as a means of processing thoughts and emotions. Simple prompts will guide you to express yourself freely, without worrying about structure or correctness. Later weeks will introduce meditative watercolour techniques, spontaneous sketching, and mindful photography, even how to enjoy poetry and soothing haiku as a part of your practice—all ways to help you stay grounded and present. The course opens on Sunday, October 20, 2024, with new lessons published each Sunday through November 24, 2024. THere will be two live Zoom gatherings, one of Opening Day (Oct. 20) and one on December 1. Both sessions will be recorded. They will take place at 1PM eastern time. Once registered you have access to this course until September 24, 2025.
This course also recognises the importance of community. While your creative practice is a personal journey, Creative Sanctuary offers an online space where participants can share their work, support one another, and feel connected. The sharing element is entirely optional, and there’s no pressure to put your work on display if it doesn’t feel right for you. The focus is always on personal growth and creating a space where you feel safe to express yourself.
Additionally, Creative Sanctuary is committed to inclusivity and affordability. The workshop is priced at $65 for six weeks, but there is a discounted option for those who cannot afford the full price, as well as a few scholarships for those in need. I believe that everyone should have access to a soft practice in their lives, especially in these challenging times.
Join us in this gentle and inclusive space, where creativity becomes a sanctuary for the soul, all between the covers of one special notebook. Whether you’re looking to ease anxiety, reignite your creative spark, or simply try something new, Creative Sanctuary offers a supportive environment to explore, create, and heal.
